Victims of tornadoes and other disasters in Arkansas can receive free legal assistance through the Disaster Legal Assistance Project. This project is in conjunction with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), local bar associations and legal service programs. Types of services available are assistance with insurance claims, counseling on housing problems, replacement of wills and other legal documents destroyed in the disaster, drafting of powers of attorney and referring individuals to local or state agencies.
Call 1-800-650-0856 between 1 and 4:00 PM week days.
Any attorneys not already involved in the Disaster Legal Assistance Project are encouraged to volunteer, especially those in affected counties. Attorneys wishing to volunteer should call the Arkansas Bar Association.
